Biography Living Museum
We studied famous people in American history this spring by using our informational reading skills. The students chose a famous person to research and studied at least three informational resources. They then took notes and wrote a report about the person, created a short introduction about the person, and used an app, Morpho, to bring the famous person "to life". Students also made a frame for the iPad so that when museum visitors came to their exhibit, he or she could activate the talking famous person who introduced themselves (using the student's voice), and the student could then talk about some of the interesting things about their famous person. We had a fun time and had many visitors, including parents and students from second and third grade. |

Geometry During our study of geometry, we explored characteristics of two and three dimensional shapes. In these pictures, we were building symmetrical designs with pattern blocks during math stations. |
Polar Express Party The last day before Christmas Break, we had a Polar Express party! We read The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg to our second graders, then eagerly awaited to board the Polar Express. The Art Room had been decorated (thanks Mrs. Hill!) to resemble a train and a winter wonderland. When it was time, we heard the train whistle and the conductor (thanks Mr. Christensen!) called us to board the Polar Express. Once students were seated, we began the movie. During planned intermissions, we returned to our classroom to work on our Polar Express paper bag booklet and enjoyed special treats like hot cocoa and Christmas goodies. We had a magical time! |
